Case Study: Automotive Product Parts

Hardinge Lathe Automation

The scope of the work required for this project was to auto load components through a magazine loading system that could be extended to run on a lights operation.

The parts for machining are for the automotive industries. The operation was for a second finishing operation to face off to length and groove for fixing.

The automation was to a Hardinge GT conquest lathe. Create a gripper loading station fixed to the cross slide the magazine is capable of releasing a single component to be loaded into the gripper and placed into the chuck, a combined end stop and ejection system was designed to enable the 2 different length parts to be machined and ejected into the pneumatic controlled ejection chute to be dropped through the rear of the machine onto a collection tray

The first machine was delivered in 2004 and because of its success a second was purchased in early 2006.
